Reflection as an Interviewer (Yohanes Princen)
It's such an amazing moment when I look up into the mirror, reflecting myself and I was dressing with a formal shirt, slacks, and vantofel shoes. Imagining myself as an adult man who already employed and finnancially dependent. Unfortunately, that imagination was to fast. I still studying Psychology and for this very special moment why I dressed up like this, is for Technique of Interview.
In this moment, we must act for a three different jobs. The first job is we must act as interviewer, we have a list of questions and we musti do a proper way when we interviewing someone (but watch out, we are being watched out by observer just accross the mirror). The second jobs is we must act as interviewee, this was one of my favourite. During this section, we just answered the questions and act according to the case. For example my favourite was when the case is Clinical, I was told to become a shopaholic. I just thinking "is there any shopaholic man out there? What should I spent my money of? Maskara? Eyeliner? or maybe Lipstick?" Of course i was confused at first, but then i can create a situation which is created by the Interviewer. The third job is we must act as an observer, during this section we must carefully read and watch the interviewer with 100% attention. Although my ears become deaf for a moment when the interviewee hit the table with full force when I just tried to rise the volume of my headset. this section is a lot of fun either.
Within this moment, there are three situations when we act as and interivewer, interviewee, and observer. The first is PIO, Education, and Clinical. I was careless when I was interviewing in education situation. The interviewee said himself as a superstar with an arrogant but smiling face. I laughed for a seconds back there, and that is only my fatal mistake. For the rest, I can do most all of them properly. At first, when the interviewee knock the door, I open the door say greetings (shake hand and good afternoon), creating a good rapport, have a good eye contact while writing the interviewee answer and verbal behaviour. Also when the interview is over, I shake hand again and opened the door for the interviewee.
Fortunately for us, we also take the proccess of interview not only in the area of psychology, but we go to the field directly. My group went to PSTW. When I had my first step there I just realize something, we humans have a very short limits in life. No matter how free we are like a butterfly flying above the ground, no matter how rich we are like Bill Gates or something, and no matter how handsome and beautiful we are like superstar and artist, ages will consume us. This place however, fill with elderly. I was feeling so sad just to look at them. I can see in most of their eyes, no energy, no spirit, no confidence just a wishes that they want to become young again and do whatever they want. Well fortunately, my subject in PSTW can cooperate with me and asnwer my questions although her answer is just circling around. I did an interview for 34 minutes, and what took so long is i must close her wound often, because she always crying when I asked about the past. This woman however, lost his only child when the child is just 3 years old, and her husband abondened her. So I can assume that she needs a affection, so I tried to hug her with my left hand. Unfortunately, this action turns out to be a BAD IDEA. She become to comfortable when I hugged her and she tried to hug me back, of course I can do nothing. What make this bad is she hugged me with her right hand over my back, and her left hand on my haunch. Her left hand almost nearly touch my genital, which make me very uncomfortable. Eventually, I must understand that she is lonely, if I review with the Maslow's Hiearchy, this woman lost the third one (love and belongingness). In the end, i can do the rapport properly and gives her effort to living, support her and make her confidence and spirit rise up again.
